Camping on St. Vrain Mountain
Sometimes it’s difficult to find a camping spot in the beautiful Colorado mountains, especially during the summer months. After some exhaustive searching, we found an amazing campsite next to Rock Creek in the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
After some setup, we took a quick hike around the area to discover some beautiful wildflowers and creek views. And then, with enough light left in the day, we decided to try to hike up St. Vrain and see what we could see. We underestimated the hike.
St. Vrain itself is a 12,000 ft. high mountain, and from the trailhead it’s a 3,200′ climb. However, we did not start from the trailhead. So, after about an hour and a half of constant upward climbing, we never even broke the treeline. The views were pretty, and the dogs had a lot of fun, but my legs felt like they were about to fall off. So, maybe we’ll save Vrain for another day.
Camping was a different story, though. The sound of the nearby creek and the birds chirping in the trees was very relaxing. I would camp at this spot again any time.
