Hiking Boulder’s First Flatiron

The Flatirons are the Colorado equivalent of the “urban hike.” Although, when you’re on the trail, it really doesn’t seem like you’re near civilization at all.

Entering from Chautauqua, we made our way from the Chautauqua Trail to the 1st/2nd Flatiron Trail. The switchbacks were numerous. The elevation gain was rapid. It was a moderately difficult hike, but the summit was worth it.

Looking out at the Boulder valley juxtaposed against the profile of the Flatirons beside you, you truly do appreciate living near nature. I would recommend this hike to any Colorado newcomer.
