Hiking Maxwell Falls in Evergreen
For those who enjoy an easy hike at a very pretty spot fairly close to Denver, I would highly suggest Maxwell Falls. The Lower Maxwell Falls Trailhead has a small parking lot that fills up quickly, but there are opportunities to park along the roadway without too much trouble. The trail is tree-lined and pretty easy. The path can get narrow in places and fairly steep when you reach the falls, but otherwise the hike would be easy/moderate. There is a lot to see during the 4.2 mile loop, so make sure you enjoy your stroll!
After we hiked around Evergreen and had lunch with some friends at Lariat Lodge, Anna and I tried our best to find a spot to camp for the night. This, however, proved difficult on this beautiful Colorado weekend. After exhausting our options on the roads around Evergreen, we took a drive up Guanella Pass to see what we could find. Again, bad luck with camp sites, but this time we had some good luck with wildlife spotting! We saw a large group of Bighorn sheep crossing the road just outside of Georgetown! After checking three or four campsites (read: driving waaaay back on scary forest service roads) and still being unsuccessful, we decided to head back for the day, but still got a good drive into the mountains.
