Archery and a Hike at Barr Lake

Living near a state park definitely has its benefits: there are always new, fun things to experience. Luckily for us, Barr Lake State Park, just outside of Brighton, Colorado, has an archery range! On a chilly January morning, a friendly park ranger lent Anna and I each a bow & some arrows and helped guide us in using them. Needless to say, I was pretty great at it, hitting multiple bullseyes.

After our archery lessons, we took a quick hike to a wildlife viewing station placed out over the water to see if we could catch a glimpse of the bald eagles which nest at Barr Lake every winter. While they weren’t very close to us, we did see two bald eagles and their nest across the water. We watched for awhile as the eagles soared around, entering and exiting the nest. Bald eagles are much more common here than other places we’ve lived, but it’s still always amazing to see them in person.
